The Power and Purpose of Leadership

The question was asked two millennia ago: What is the key to greatness? What is the key to self-actualisation? What is the key to gaining honours and trophies? Where are the true leaders today? Everybody is asking:

• Are leaders born, or are they made?
• Are leaders developed, created, cultivated, or are they simply the accidental products of desperate circumstances?
• Is leadership the birthright of a chosen few; a preserve of a particular gender, social class, or intellectual elite?
• Is leadership the divine entitlement of a rare breed, carriers of some exceptional DNA, born to rule while the rest of us follow?
• Must one hold a title or position of authority to be considered a leader?
• Can one truly lead without first learning how to become a leader?
• Or can anyone, regardless of background, education, wealth, or origin, rise up to lead?
