商品簡介

The Call of Cthulhu & The Colour Out of Space (Spanish-English Bilingual Edition)

This bilingual volume brings together two landmark stories by H. P. Lovecraft that helped define modern cosmic horror. The Call of Cthulhu traces an investigator's reconstruction of scattered testimonies, newspaper clippings, and personal journals, gradually revealing a global network of myth, cult, and uneasy knowledge. The Colour Out of Space follows the slow contamination of a New England farm after a meteorite falls from the sky, charting how an inexplicable "colour" alters soil, water, bodies, and perception itself.

Across both works, Lovecraft reframes fear as an encounter with scales and realities beyond human comprehension. Language falters before what the narrators observe; scientific, theological, and folkloric vocabularies prove partial and provisional. The stories use archival and testimonial structures, unreliable witnesses, and precise physical detail to suggest a universe fundamentally indifferent to human concerns. Their influence can be traced through later horror and science fiction, role-playing games, film, and contemporary literature that explores nonhuman agencies and the limits of knowledge.

These tales remain relevant for readers interested in how narrative handles uncertainty, contested evidence, and invisible forces. The Call of Cthulhu speaks to modern information cultures-how fragments, rumors, and specialized reports can coalesce into unsettling patterns. The Colour Out of Space anticipates environmental anxieties, depicting contamination without clear cause or remedy and raising questions about perception, measurement, and the adequacy of human frameworks for understanding change.

This edition presents the complete texts in Spanish and English. Original language: English. The bilingual format supports multiple kinds of reading: learners can build vocabulary and syntax by checking passages across languages; literature students can compare tone, rhythm, and register; and all readers can examine how key motifs-ritual, geometry, scale, and the language of observation-shift between linguistic systems. Presented together, the two languages offer a practical tool for close study and comparative interpretation.

About the Author

H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer whose short fiction shaped the tradition now known as cosmic horror. Working largely in pulp magazines in the early twentieth century, he developed a mode of "weird" writing that blends antiquarian settings, scientific discourse, and imagined mythologies. His stories often adopt documentary forms-letters, reports, and case histories-to stage encounters with the unknowable. Lovecraft's ideas and imagery have had enduring impact on horror and speculative fiction, influencing writers, artists, and game designers across generations.
