Those were Gis鋩e Pelicot's words explaining her decision to invite the media and society to witness the trial for the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, who drugged her for over a decade and allowed at least fifty unknown men to rape her while unconscious. This macro-trial transformed Gis鋩e entirely, and without meaning to, turned her into a symbol of something much bigger, marking a tipping point in the public perception of one of the most disturbing cases in recent years.

This book goes beyond the headlines. It is an attempt to find answers for the inexplicable, and without actually planning it, she was the Spanish journalist who spent more hours in attendance at the judicial process that spanned from early September to mid December 2024. The time she spent in this space changed her perspective: the courtroom, the hallways charged with tension, the cafeteria where the accused would talk normally, people with whom she ended up exchanging involuntary greetings... As a journalist, but above all, as a woman, Villa嶰ija began this trial with plenty of questions, and finished it with some answers, not only about what happened, but mostly about why it happened.

These pages portray the protagonists of the case--the accused, as well as those who defended them, knew them, and identified them--but also speak of us, this society we built together and that it often prefers to look the other way.
