B.T. Scherer grew up along the sun-soaked shores of South Florida, where the beach and ocean were her playground. Surrounded by the wonders of coastal wildlife - turtles, crabs, seagulls, pelicans, and fish - she developed a deep love for nature. As a child, she and her brother would help baby sea turtles make their way safely to the ocean.

Today, she resides in Delray Beach, where her passion for nature continues to inspire her. Her children's books are filled with the magic of the animals she grew up with and echo the warmth of the bedtime stories her father once told, bringing the beauty of her childhood to life for a new generation of readers.

When Myrtle hatches on a sandy beach in South Florida, she faces her first big challenge-she can't dig her way out of her nest. Luckily, two caring children, who know that baby turtles hatch in late summer, are there to help. They gently rescue Myrtle and care for her in a seawater aquarium until she's strong enough to return to the ocean.

As Myrtle grows and explores the wide, beautiful Sargasso Sea, she befriends Porpie, a curious and cheerful porpoise who loves hearing her story. Together, they journey through the Gulf Stream, sharing adventures as Myrtle prepares for the most important trip of her life-returning to the very beach where she was born, now as a mother ready to lay her eggs.
