The Attic Patient

The first thing Emily notices about the house is that it's looking back at her.

Once a trusted psychologist, Emily Harper's life collapsed after a patient accused her of catastrophic negligence. The court case devoured her reputation and nearly destroyed her marriage. Desperate to start over, Emily and her family flee to a weathered Victorian on the edge of a small town-a bargain too good to question.

The realtor calls the attic "great storage." Lily, Emily's twelve-year-old daughter, calls it haunted. The steep gables and black attic window seem to lean toward the family, listening. At night, something paces overhead, even though the attic door is nailed shut.

Then Emily finds therapy notes in her handwriting for a patient she cannot recall-notes hidden in the attic along with pill bottles and recordings of sessions she doesn't remember conducting. The clinical language is hers. The memories are not.

As her grip on reality frays, Emily must decide what to trust: her training, her fractured mind, or the whispers in the walls. Because one patient isn't finished with her. And the attic keeps perfect records of every mistake.
