Anatomy is the foundational subject in the medical curriculum. A deep understanding of anatomical concepts during the pre-clinical years is essential to ensure effective future clinical practice. Over the years, anatomy was taught using various approaches, including cadaveric dissection, prosection and plastinated specimens and illustrations. For many years, hand-drawn illustrations on black board using chalks were widely used by anatomists in the classroom. This approach formed the basis to conceptualise and edit the current book. Emeritus Prof. Ling, in his five decades of anatomy teaching, has collected his hand-drawn anatomical illustrations which provide integrated concepts of gross anatomy, histology (including both light and electron microscopy images), some aspects of developmental biology, and relevant neuroanatomical context.
