The Edwardian era is in full swing and Asquith's Liberal government is confronting several divisive issues. The Irish are demanding home rule, Germany is winning the 'arms race', and the suffragettes are demanding the right to equality.

The Enrights would prefer to continue enjoying the quiet life that has belatedly come their way, but circumstances conspire against them.

Their restless daughter Lily stumbles upon a suffragette protest and witnesses the brutality inflicted on the women by the police, inspiring her to covertly work for the cause.
