This research analyzes the role of handicraft and local production fairs in Barbacena (MG) as instruments for economic, cultural and social development, in the light of the creative economy. The study investigated how the Feira de Origem (Fridays) and the Feira dos Artes緌s (Saturdays) contribute to generating income, employment and cultural appreciation. By means of questionnaires applied to the fairgoers and artisans, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, the socio-economic profile of the participants, the impacts on income, the main difficulties faced and suggestions for improvements were identified. The results show that the fairs function as creative ecosystems, promoting visibility, opportunities and community ties. However, challenges such as insufficient infrastructure, limited publicity and the need for greater institutional support were highlighted. The paper concludes that fairs play a strategic role in strengthening the local creative economy and advocates public policies that value these cultural practices for sustainable development.
