This book follows the story of the Boerne team to the Little League World Series in 2024. Many people don't realize how high this mountain is to climb. We were the 29th team from Texas to get to Williamsport in 75 years. Texas has only won two world championships, in 1950 and 1966. Our game against Florida was the most-watched Little League US Championship game since 2015 with over 4.4 MILLION viewers on both ABC and ESPN+!! In our book, we use our story to talk about how parents, players, and coaches turn ordinary kids into extraordinary athletes and go compete on a global stage like this by 12 years old. It shares many of our statistics, that way other parents and coaches know what can be achieved, they can measure their kids' and teams' current performance and develop plans for continued improvement.
The book includes the play-by-play of all 19 games that summer, with background on the various teams and cities in Texas that we visited and provides a lot of behind-the-scenes moments that were not captured on TV. In case you haven't seen it, ESPN also made a documentary of that summer, called Big Dreams: Little League World Series 2024. Several of the Boerne players show up in that movie. Live the action with a play-by-play detail of their 19 games that summer and go behind-the-scenes to learn what players and families do in the years leading up to this point! This book dives into the details about youth athletic development, nutrition, sleep, and building confidence. We also talk about what the boys are focused on going into high school, and how we are preparing for high school and collegiate sports, with intentional development in the weight room, higher-level practice, and intentionality getting 1% better every day!
We want to inspire future generations of kids and parents to dream big dreams, put a plan together to work really hard on those dreams, go work toward it every day, and strive to reach your dreams too. One of my favorite quotes is, "If you shoot for the moon and miss, you're still among stars." While your dreams might not work out exactly as you dreamed them, if you put in this level of effort and persistence, then you are still in a much better place than never starting at all, and you will be forever changed as a person.
