The Captain and her Mate
Lieutenant Commander Theresa Leslie, the youngest female Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, is assigned to bring the old patrol boat "Derecho" out of mothballs as the first patrol boat of the Navy's new coastal defense force. On one of her infrequent days off, she meets Lieutenant Matt Chapman, a junior officer who is waiting to join his ship when it arrives in port. After they spend the night together, Theresa receives emergency orders for the Derecho. Theresa must take her green crew and untested boat to assist a team of Navy SEALs in retaking an LP gas tanker that has been hijacked by terrorists.
As the Derecho prepares to leave port, Theresa's new weapons officer arrives- Lieutenant Matt Chapman- the man she had just spent the night with.
She must hide her love for Matt and his daughter Sophie. Political intrigue, the harsh demands of her career, and the fighting of an undeclared war across the globe clash violently with her discovery of the wonderful life she could have outside the Navy, disrupting her normally well-ordered life. Theresa is forced to make difficult choices.
Can she have both her career and Matt, or does she have to choose between them?
The Captain and her Mate is a romance-adventure story featuring locations and events that could have been ripped from today's headlines.
