商品簡介
A campfire flickers beneath the sprawling gum trees, laughter rising into the cool night air as the scent of eucalyptus drifts across the open land. Here, in the heart of rural Australia, the rhythms of bush life pulse through every line, weaving together the grit, humour, and quiet longing of those who shaped the early twentieth-century landscape. The verses collected here capture the spirit of a country both vast and intimate, where the struggles and joys of everyday existence are rendered with sharp wit and an unmistakable Australian voice. From the dry wit found in the struggles of the outback to the gentle lyricism that celebrates the land's beauty, these bush ballads and poems evoke a world where mateship, resilience, and a wry sense of humour are as enduring as the red earth itself. Each poem is steeped in the vernacular and atmosphere of its time, offering a window into the lives, dreams, and ironies of a nation coming into its own. The collection stands as a testament to the enduring power of Australian poetry, blending satire and affection in equal measure. Its pages brim with observations of bushmen, swaggies, and city folk alike, revealing the contrasts and connections that define Australian cultural poetry. The language is at once colloquial and crafted, inviting readers into a landscape of both hardship and exuberant spirit-a literary tapestry as unpredictable as the weather that shapes the outback. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure, offering an authentic immersion into the world of early Australian verse and the unique humour and humanity of its poet.
