Anti-knight sudoku is the gentlest of the constraint-variant sudokus to learn and one of the most rewarding to solve. On top of the ordinary sudoku rules ?" row, column, and box each containing the digits one through nine exactly once ?" the anti-knight variant adds a single prohibition: no two cells a chess knight's move apart may contain the same digit. That is the entire variant. One new rule; no arithmetic; no thermometer paths; no irregular regions. The practical effect of the knight constraint is to roughly double the reach of every placed digit. In ordinary sudoku, a digit placed in one cell eliminates itself from approximately twenty other cells ?" the eight other cells in its row, the eight other cells in its column, and the four remaining cells of its three-by-three box.
