Reminiscences and Struggles of the Kisan Sabha is the first in the five-volume series 'Selected Works of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati'. Sahajanand (1889-1950) was not only a prominent peasant leader but also a freedom fighter and social reformer. The present volume traces the historical evolution of peasant movements as well as the transformation of the Sahajanand-led Kisan Sabha from a moderate peasant organization to a militant one. It also chronicles how a band of dedicated 'non-leaders' at the village level fought and brought massive relief to the people under their sway. It was a true replica of David and Goliath story described in the Holy Bible.
This volume presents a subaltern view of modern Indian history, offering observations and reflections on the Indian freedom struggle by a leader not from an English-educated, upper-class background, but from the margins.
