The gift of these poems is their ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and invite the reader to embark on a journey that transcends the routines of life. I was continually struck by Jamie Armstrong's ability to capture the thread of connection between all life with spare beautifully crafted lines: "...the steadfast presence of trees nourishes me with strength" and "Wind brings a wild wordless message that moves my spirit with wonder." A Winged Promise is filled with poems that demonstrate a poet's great pleasure to be part of the community of the natural world.
-Devreaux Baker, Mendocino County Poet Laureate
We all have somewhere to be and obligations to fulfill. Jamie Armstrong, on the page and reading his poems aloud, says, "Stop. Come with me." We travel back to childhood. We join him later in life for pensive moments on bike rides and hikes. We steady ourselves in the presence of his favorite trees, reflecting on science and the climate crisis. Each pause is strategic and life-giving, as his somewhere becomes the place we want to be.

About the Poet
As a boy Jamie Armstrong lived in the hills just east of the mountains around San Francisco Bay. He noticed oaks, wild grasses and poppies as they flowed through the cycles of their seasons. Of his college education, what influenced him the most were the writings and visual art of William Blake.
Jamie assembled and bound by hand his first collection of poems, Moon Haiku. His color photographs separated the sections of poems in Landscapes of Epiphany. He co- founded the Live Poets Society in Boise, Idaho, primarily a workshopping group. These poets discovered that give- and-take communication encourages everyone's voice to be heard and their comments respected.
Living on the coast of Northern California, Jamie reads and writes, rides his mountain bike, and photographs the sea, towns, and forest. He enjoys being a member of the local community.
