'The cards i have been dealt' is aisha's journey through life through poetry, touching on the set of circumstances they have been given before they ever got to make a choice. From coming out, to experiencing love, heartbreak, religious trauma, mental health struggles, navigating family life that is far from what she expected and seeing the systematic injustice in the world, the cards she has been dealt are a mix of advantages, limitations and realities that impact how she experiences the world as it is.
Split into six sections that each represent a specific card she has been dealt, aisha's debut poetry book was created for the sole purpose of reminding anyone that is going through any of these issues, that they are not alone and that she sees them. The cards that she has been dealt are ones that you all may have been dealt at some point in your life and so, this book is for you just as much as it is for her. The journey flows from judgement, to the hierophant, to five of cups, to justice in reverse and then the lovers, finally ending with death - a complete journey that ends in the rebirth of identity.
Expect a soft rollercoaster of emotions, so keep a box of tissues close and allow yourself to feel it all. Feel free to read it chronologically to show the journey, but also listen to what your mind is telling you - if a specific card is calling to you then listen and start there.
