Intimate and Reflective
Some poets write what they think people want to hear, but that is not this book. This book does not contain poems about nature and how "green the grass is over on the hill....."
This book contains poems about music, musicians, and musical instruments. There are a few odd ones thrown in - a fictional piece about my parents, two nice sentimental pieces about my father, an upbeat piece on Christmas, and a few vintage pieces from Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickenson, Herbert Trench, Izumi Shikibu, Lizzie Lawson, Michael Drayton, Robert Louis Stevenson, T. S. Eliot.
These poems are a direct communication to you, the reader. If you wanted to say that some of them are written in the form of reviews, you could say that. That would be totally accurate. These are easy to read and understand, and many were written while I was in college - I had accidentally discovered that I wanted to become a musician, and I did. My passion for music was so strong that it became the theme for this book.
The two poems about the acoustic guitar were written before I bought my own guitar. With precision and contemplative skill, these poetic pieces explore creation and loss, fragility of being, rhythm and rest, painful yearning, anger, frustration and idiosyncratic moments of private reckoning.
