An evocative and heart warming collection of stories from time spent among the Pitjantjatjara People of Central Australia.
It's 1983 and Elsebeth Nielsen travels to Pine Gap near Alice Springs to join the Women's Peace Camp, protesting the existence of an American nuclear base in the heart of Australia. It is here that she first meets some Pitjantjatjara women during negotiations in a dry river bed. Six months later, with her husband and two daughters, Elsebeth moves to Pitjantjatjara Country to work for the Anangu people. Here she will have her conceptions of the world challenged and fall in love with a different way of life. She is about to meet the women who will 'grow her up.'
