A lost world of post-war repertory theatre, in the words of an actress who was there.
Published here for the first time, Jean Kitson's memoir takes readers behind the scenes of the post-war provincial stage - from frantic rehearsals and opening nights to life on tour, lasting friendships and the sheer excitement of performing in Rep.
Along the way, from Leeds and Bradford to Swansea and Chester: the local favourites who became national stars, the larger-than-life characters and the frequent mishaps.
Written with warmth, humour and affection, Jean Steps Out helps preserve an important chapter in Yorkshire and British theatre history.
INCLUDES BONUS AUDIO: Readers can scan a QR code in this book for free access to two rare original recordings of scenes from Court Players productions, recorded in Leeds in 1948-1949 and digitally restored.
