Cast out of a small Midwestern town for being unlike the other girls, an eighteen-year-old arrives in New York with one suitcase, a few dollars, and nowhere to sleep. A stranger feeds her, then walks her through the crooked streets of Greenwich Village - a place where women love women openly, and where she suddenly, terrifyingly, belongs.
She takes a job delivering pizza, learns the bars and the bruises, and falls hard: first for a married woman who cannot choose her, then for a film star whose glamour comes wrapped in secrecy and fear. Love, she discovers, is easy to find here and nearly impossible to keep.
