In the Baoul?Basin in Kita, 687 biconical and monoconical traps were set and located using a Garmin(R) GPS. A total of 2,125 tsetse flies were captured, of which 82.96% were of the species Glossina palpalis gambiensis and 17.03% of the species Glossina tachinoides. The traps were distributed evenly across three landscape types (preserved, semi-preserved, degraded), with 229 traps per landscape type. 62.21% (1,322/2,125) of the tsetse flies were captured in the conserved landscape, 32.84% (698/2,125) in the semi-conserved landscape, and 4.94% (105/2,125) in the degraded landscape. Glossina morsitans submorsitans was not found in the study area. The sex ratio favored females at 1.15. Of the 567 dissected females, 57.5% were older mated females, 38.9% were young mated females, and 3.6% were nulliparous females. The infection rate among tsetse flies was 20.7% (135/650). Two species of trypanosomes were observed: Trypanosoma vivax and Trypanosoma congolense.
