The Ivan Goncharov Classics Collection: Oblomov & The Precipie - [DELUXE HARDBOUND EDITION]

"Two Novels In One! In one, compact volume, Ivan Goncharov's two most popular and influential classic novels: Oblomov; The Precipie "Oblomov" is the timeless masterpiece by Ivan Goncharov, a classic of Russian literature, originally published in 1859. ""Oblomov"" is about a cultured, intelligent, upper middle-class man experiencing a mid-life crisis. Ilya Ilyich Oblomov has sunk into a lethargic stupor, which he calls ""Oblomovism,"" and spends the majority of his time lying on the sofa or in bed. Goncharov beautifully portrays the process of Oblomov's decline, as well as its consequences, at first through flashbacks and then through the intervention of Andrey Stoltz, a man quite the opposite of Oblomov. The novel was revered for its brutal but honest representation of the slothfulness of the Russian gentry, and has become a timeless classic of Russian and psychological fiction. "The Precipice" explores themes of love, morality, and societal expectations in 19th-century Russia. It follows the life of "Vera Raisky", a young, intelligent woman torn between traditional values and personal independence. Set against the backdrop of a provincial town, the novel portrays her relationships with three suitors: Raisky, a romantic artist and her cousin; Mark Volokhov, a revolutionary thinker; and Tushin, a practical and grounded man."
