This book follows John F. Kennedy at crucial periods in his life and examines the evolution of his core beliefs that informed his decision making while president. Kennedy was influenced by his family, education, service in World War II, and time in public office. The emotions pervasive in these experiences and his close relationships informed his thinking and developed into core beliefs which guided him throughout his life. The book argues that, on October 27, 1962, when it seemed that the United States was going to war with the Soviet Union over missiles in Cuba, these core beliefs drove his decision making and arguably saved the world from annihilation.
