Traditionally practiced in shallow coastal waters, aquaculture has been expanding into deeper oceanic zones in response to the increasing demand for marine resources and the pressures of overfishing and environmental degradation in shallower waters. This Special Issue examines the emerging field of deep-sea aquaculture, concentrating on selecting species suitable for cultivation in deep-sea conditions, as well as the technological innovations necessary to make such ventures sustainable. The deep-sea environment presents unique challenges, including extreme pressure, low temperatures, and limited light. However, technological advancements in aquaculture systems, such as autonomous monitoring and feeding, specialized equipment, and biosecurity measures, are paving the way for successful deep-sea aquaculture operations. This Special Issue offers an in-depth examination of the criteria for selecting species, the technologies involved, the challenges encountered, and the sustainability considerations associated with deep-sea aquaculture.
