James Sloan has spent his life surrounded by wealth, yet he has never believed that money is the measure of a meaningful life. Born into one of New England's prominent families, he is accustomed to privilege but uncomfortable with the expectations that accompany it. Martha, the ambitious daughter of a plumber, has always dreamed of the security, status, and opportunities that wealth can provide.
