The Power of God's Grace: The Memoir of a Catholic Deacon

Born in rural Nigeria and first cradled by his maternal grandmother, Reverend Deacon Sylvanus (Sunny) Sunday Offorjebe began life within the quiet strength of tradition, faith, and family. A providential infant baptism-given even though his parents were not Christians-set him on a path that would define his identity, shape his vocation, and carry him across continents.

From nine formative years in seminary formation for the Roman Catholic priesthood to the heartbreak of watching that dream close, Sunny's journey is one of resilience, surrender, and grace. Accepting God's will, he traveled to the United States, where he rebuilt his life through university studies and a distinguished career in the medical-device and pharmaceutical industries. Rising from chemist to senior management and eventually founding his own quality systems and regulatory consulting firm, he forged a professional legacy marked by integrity and excellence.

Yet beneath every achievement ran a deeper current-a spiritual longing that never faded. Through devotion to the Eucharist, active service in Catholic and cultural organizations, and the unwavering support of his wife, Sabina-whose own deep faith was shaped by a formation similar to his-and their children, Sunny discovered that God had been guiding him toward a different calling all along. That call was fulfilled on May 14, 2016, when he was ordained a permanent deacon at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in San Jose.

Today, Deacon Sunny serves at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish and with the Nigerian Igbo Catholic Community of San Jose, extending his ministry throughout the Bay Area. His life-spanning continents, cultures, and callings-is a testament to heritage, perseverance, and divine purpose.
