Dara works with the harbour lights-the practical, weather-beaten systems that keep people safe when the sea turns difficult. He is steady, thoughtful and infuriatingly good at asking before stepping closer. He is also the father of Alva, a bright, fiercely capable girl whose world includes Irish Sign Language, star-covered ear defenders and absolutely no patience for adults making unnecessary drama.
