About the Book
The beautiful Native American flute sat in an attic for many years. Would it ever find the person who was meant to play the song it held inside?
The seasons kept passing, but the flute decided to never ever, no matter what, give up hope that it would find its person.
About the Language:
The language used in the story is Muscogee Creek. The words are written in the English spelling in the text for easier reading, but the Muscogee alphabet is quite different from English, as shown in the Muscogee alphabet list included in the book. Since the Native way to pass down traditions was usually oral, they didn't have a written alphabet until the Europeans came and wrote it down based on the Latin alphabet. It consists of 19 letters and was adopted in 1853 by the Muscogee Creek Nation and the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.
The traditions:
The traditions written about in the story include storytelling, pow wow festivals and dancing in the pow wow circle, respect of elders, the belief in a Creator, finger weaving, flute playing, the wearing of regalia (traditional pow wow clothing), and certain traditional foods like corn and fry bread.
