The book, Tang Monk, is the life story of Xuanzang (玄奘), also known as Tang Sanzang (唐三藏), a character from the Chinese classical novel Journey to the West (西游记), who went to fetch the Buddhist scriptures from India (西天). The volume, 9th in the Mandarin Chinese Reading Series, includes both the Chinese text (simplified characters) and pinyin in the story form. With about 700 unique characters, the volume would be suitable for the beginners, lower intermediate and advanced level Chinese language learners (HSK 1-6).
