At Beacon Point, everyone watches. Nobody sees everything.
When Valerie Ahern takes a casserole to the reclusive new resident of Unit 46, she finds Gerald Finch dead on his sitting-room floor. The official verdict: cardiac arrest. An old man living alone. Nothing suspicious.
Retired detective inspector Arthur Bennett isn't so sure. Why had Gerald fitted a second lock to his door? Where did the photograph on his mantelpiece go? And why doesn't his medication add up?
With a forensic accountant, a formidable former finance executive, a retired social worker and a few other unlikely allies from the village, Arthur starts asking questions. The trail leads back twenty years, to a collapsed charity trust and a scandal someone badly wants to stay buried.
Warm, witty and quietly moving, The Body in Unit 46 is the first of the Kōwhai Bay Mysteries: a cozy mystery novella about friendship, second chances, and the discovery that life after retirement can still hold a few surprises.
Perfect for fans of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club.
