商品簡介
Mandothi Wetland as an Avian Habitat: Species Composition and Diversity presents a focused account of the rich avian diversity associated with Mandothi Wetland in Jhajjar, Haryana. The book highlights the ecological significance of this man-made wetland, comprising three major ponds surrounded by agricultural landscapes, and examines its role as a habitat, feeding ground, and refuge for a diverse assemblage of bird species. Wetlands are among the most productive and ecologically significant ecosystems, supporting complex interactions between aquatic and terrestrial communities. Birds, in particular, are valuable indicators of ecosystem health because their occurrence, abundance, and distribution are closely influenced by habitat quality, food availability, water conditions, vegetation structure, and anthropogenic pressures. Against this background, the book provides an assessment of bird species composition and diversity at Mandothi Wetland and discusses the ecological factors that contribute to its importance as an avian habitat. The book also draws attention to the increasing threats faced by wetlands, including habitat degradation, changing land-use patterns, invasive species, and human disturbance. Such pressures can alter wetland structure and functioning and consequently influence bird communities. Understanding these changes is therefore essential for developing effective conservation and sustainable management strategies. With its emphasis on avian diversity, wetland ecology, habitat utilization, and conservation, this book provides useful insights into the ecological value of lesser-studied wetlands of Haryana. It will be valuable to students, researchers, academicians, wildlife professionals, conservation practitioners, and readers interested in ornithology, biodiversity, wetland ecology, and environmental conservation.
