Frampton (architecture, Columbia U.) worked with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma (b.1954) to prepare this presentation, and Kuma provides an intriguing preface. The volume is oversize (9.75x12") to effectively display 390 illustrations--color photos and drawings--showcasing 25 projects. Organization is according to materials: water and glass; wood, grass, and bamboo; stone, earth, and ceramic. Frampton provides an introductory essay and descriptive text, rounding out a volume of substantial interest to architects, designers, planners, and, indeed, anyone ready to take inspiration from an extraordinary creative spirit.
