The Oxford Handbook of Brazilian Cinema brings together innovative chapters that address a wide range of topics relating to cinema and cinema culture in Brazil. Including chapters that focus on the reception and production of films and on how global trends in filmmaking have shaped Brazilian cinema's practices, this Handbook moves beyond a geographically specific notion of national cinema, to ask not what is Brazilian cinema but, rather, what is cinema in Brazil? This question is developed in three sections, "histories," "spaces," and "genres and media." Chapters in the section "Histories" explore diverse trajectories of Brazilian film culture and practices, including film criticism, archival endeavours, black filmmaking and films made during the Covid pandemic. The impact of historical contexts is explored in a conversation with women filmmakers, which delves into the devastating effects of far-right president Jair Bolsonaro on production from a female perspective. The section "Spaces

Updated to take stock of recent developments, Tom Ginsburg and Aziz Z. Huq's prescient and insightful book shows how constitutional rules both hinder and hasten democratic decline. Around the world, autocratic leaders threaten the core structures of democratic self-rule. But democratic constitutions are not fail-proof safeguards. By looking at how such leaders exploit legal mechanisms to advance their aims, we can see how democratic constitutions can sometimes abet--and even accelerate--democratic decline. In this new edition of How to Save a Constitutional Democracy, constitutional law experts Tom Ginsburg and Aziz Z. Huq offer a powerful analysis of today's challenges while arguing that the time has come for meaningful, actionable change. This new edition takes up the torch of its predecessor, canvasing developments in the United States and other countries that have transpired since 2018. Drawing lessons from countries around the world and reflecting on the prospects for American dem

Sleep Medicine places one of the most essential yet frequently underestimated foundations of neurological health at the center of clinical practice: sleep. Sleep is first and foremost a function of the brain, serving as a critical biological requirement for memory, emotional regulation, immune function, synaptic plasticity, glymphatic clearance, development, and prosocial behavior. Its influence extends across nearly every domain of neurological health and disease. This volume is the first in the 'What Do I Do Now?' series devoted entirely to sleep disorders and their diagnosis and management by neurologists. Sleep disturbances affect almost every neurological condition-not merely as comorbid symptoms, but often as contributors to disease onset, progression, or misdiagnosis. In some cases, a sleep disorder may be the earliest manifestation of an underlying neurological illness. In others, disturbed sleep can worsen neurological outcomes or mimic primary neurological disease.Through a co

This volume of Chancery reports contains a collection of miscellaneous reports in the Court of Chancery from 1727 to 1753, both in print and in manuscript. This book is a part of an ongoing project to publish the early modern manuscript law reports from the Court of Chancery during the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714). This new edition increases the number of case reports currently in print, making them accessible to scholars for the first time. The previously existing printed reports are not very reliable, and they paint the then-Lord Chancellor, Lord Harcourt, in a very poor light. This new material gives a better, unbiased, understanding of the Court of Chancery during this period.
