Mindfulness and meditation, practices that are rooted in Buddhism, have become mainstream treatments in counseling and psychotherapy that provide evidence of successful outcomes among secular clients. However, for clients from non-Western backgrounds, dissociating mindfulness practice from the core Buddhist teachings can dilute the transformative power of these practices, causing cultural confusion and lowering the effectiveness of treatment. This book is the first to present Early Buddhist Teachings as a theoretical orientation for the millions of individuals affiliated with Buddhism to create a culturally congruent counseling model. Using original sources in Pāli, it explores key Buddhist concepts such as dependent co-arising, non-self, impermanence, and many others. This publication, and the accompanying exhibition, presents the vital contributions of two of Japan's most remarkable artists, Kurosaki Akira and Nakabayashi Tadayoshi, who participated in and influenced the twentieth-century renaissance of printmaking in Japan. This cultural phenomenon grew as the artists underwent rigorous training while maintaining a robust interest in traditional printing methods, such as the world-renowned woodblock technique. Coupled with their innovative experimentation, the two printers spearheaded a revival that expanded upon established printing techniques. The Tropic of Cancer Sustainability Belt Sustainability is a global trend, and a global lingua franca. How can Taiwan use sustainability to tell our story on an international stage? How can Taiwan create a sustainability brand that is equipped with a global perspective? The National Park Service (NPS) considers the Tropic of Cancer a great place to start. By connecting the dots of Taiwan’s mountain resources, ocean resources, and sustainability partners into a line, and then making that line into a belt, we can turn the Tropic of Cancer – which many think of as just a bunch of geographic markers – into a whole new window for getting to know Taiwan.
