Candlestick technical analysis is an old trading technique that tracks the short-term price movements by employing the relationship between open, high, low, and close prices. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the predictive power of candlestick trading strategies by using the Taiwan 151 component stocks daily data for the period from 2 January 1992 to 31 December 2009. The main contribution of this thesis is using a fourprice- level approach to categorize the single-line patterns constructed by candlestick charting in a systematical manner. The approach adopted in this thesis permits us to release for the limitation of recognition in a manner not previously possible. Moreover, we not only consider transaction costs and risk but also mitigate data-snooping problems conscientiously by several appropriate methods, including the bootstrap methodology and sub-sample and out-of-sample tests. Most people suppose that the whole world knows what it is to love; that romantic love is universal, quintessentially human. Such a supposition has to be able to meet three challenges. It has to justify its underlying assumption that all cultures mean the same thing by the word ‘love’ regardless of language. It has to engage with the scholarly debate on whether or not romantic love was invented in Europe and is uniquely Western. And it must be able to explain why early twentieth-century Chinese writers claimed that they had never known true love, or love by modern Western standards. 王振寰教授1988年取得美國洛杉磯加州大學社會學博士後在母校東海大學社會學系任教多年，歷任要職，現為國立政治大學國家發展研究所榮譽教授，曾任政治大學講座教授、學術副校長。主要研究興趣為政治社會學、經濟社會學、東亞社會比較研究、永續發展等，中英文著作俱豐，包括《勞工、資本與國家機器》（1993）、《誰統治台灣？》（1996）、《追趕的極限》（2010）、Broder Crossing in Greater China: Production, Community and Identity (2014), Rethinking Social Capital and Entrepreneurship in Greater China: Dose Guanxi matter?
