The Real Worlds of Welfare Capitalism traces how individuals fare over time in each of the three principal types of welfare state. Saving rates display great variation across countries and over time. They are also closely related to growth performance. This 1999 volume provides an account of key variables, institutions and policies that determine saving. This book provides an introduction to nonequilibrium statistical physics via lattice models.
