第一卷以編年的形式收集整理了陳序經先生1925—1964年的學術論文、時事評論、演講詞、書評175篇（存目59篇），涵蓋其學術生涯各階段多領域的核心成果。第二卷收錄了陳序經先生于1928年撰就的博士論文Recent Theories of Sovereignty（附中譯本《現代主權論》）及《新政治》（英文）一書。第三卷收錄了陳序經先生所著的三種文化學論著：《中國文化的出路》《東西文化觀》《南北文化觀》，其中，《中國文化的出路》是陳序經1933年文化論戰的核心成果，成為20世紀中西文化論爭的里程碑文獻‌。第四卷收錄了陳序經先生關於社會學和教育學的四種論著：《疍民的研究》《鄉村建設運動》《大學教育論文集》《順德繅絲工業的調查報告》，其中，《疍民的研究》是我國第一本系統研究疍民問題的專著。第五卷收錄了陳序經《暹羅與中國》《南洋與中國》《越南問題》《帝國主義者統治下的東南亞》等四部聚焦東南亞的經典著述，其中，《帝國主義者統治下的東南亞》為首次公開出版。 第六至九卷集中呈現了陳序經先生畢生最具代表性的學術成就——文化學的研究成果，包括“文化論叢”系列著作（一）至（四）的全部內容（共20冊）：第六卷收錄了“文化論叢”（一）：《文化學概觀》，系陳氏中國現代文化學研究的開山之作，系統構建了文化學的理論框架與研究範式；第七卷收錄了“文化論叢”（二）：《東方文化觀》《中國文化觀》《西洋文化觀》《美國文化觀》四部專著；第八卷收錄了陳序經先生“文化論叢”（三）：《東西文化觀》，涵蓋陳序經先生關於復古主張的批評、折衷辦法的批評、西化態度的發展等；第九卷收錄了“文化論叢”（四）：《南北文化觀》 《中國西化觀》。這四卷從文化學的角度對陳序經先生的學術體系做了通盤梳理。第十卷收錄了陳序經先生關於邊疆及邊疆民族的三部學術論著：《匈奴史稿》《中國與西域》《塞種考》。其中，《匈奴史稿》是迄今為止匈奴史研究領域成果最全面、資料最豐富、學術水平最高的一部專著（葉顯恩《全集·序》）。匈奴是一個強悍的遊牧民族，不立文字，無自己的史書。在其700多年可考的歷史中，中國文獻與西方文獻的記載各執一端，互不接續。陳序經

本書為影印加拿大多倫多大學東亞圖書館藏慕氏藏書目而成。此次編輯時特將慕學勳自編、自刊《蓬萊慕氏藏書目》附於書後，並編制了書名索引。“慕氏藏書”的原收藏者為山東蓬萊人慕學勳(1880—1929)，涉及經、史、子、集各部。慕學勳去世後，其子將圖書出售給加拿大英國聖公會河南教區主教懷履光(Bishop William C. White 1873-1960)。慕氏藏書購買成交後，在北京的美國公使館退休的海軍武官義理壽(Irvin Van Gillis 1875 -1948)招募了十名中國助手為慕氏藏書編目。與中國傳統的編目信息比較, 義理壽的書目更加注重對內容的分析, 並通過索引號串聯起相關書籍。本書即是義理壽以“多倫多大學中文圖書館”(The University of Toronto Chinese Library)的名義編纂的《慕氏藏書目》。

本書收入19—20世紀在中國大陸出版的英文基督教史料若干種，時間跨度從1839年直至20世紀50年代初，包括Anking newsletter，China Christian advocate，China mission advocate，Foochow messenger，Fenchow，Newsletters of the Diocesan Association for Western China, Hainan Newsletter，記錄了100多年來基督教在中國大陸開辦學校、醫院、教堂等各方面的活動；基督教新教19世紀30年代至1951年期間在中國的發展情況；中國的社會風俗的方方面面，等等。這些刊物也將為人們提供研究中國近現代史上一些重大歷史事件的新視角，如1894—1895年的中日戰爭，20世紀20年代中國的民族主義運動，1937年日本侵略中國等，為研究者提供了大量詳細的一手資料，具有較高的史料價值。
