In On Time, Punctuality and Discipline in Early Modern Calvinism, Max Engammare explores how the sixteenth-century Protestant reformers of Geneva, France, London, and Bern internalized a new concept of time. Applying a moral and spiritual code to the course of the day, they regulated their relationship with time, which was, in essence, a new relationship with God. Randall Collins convincingly argues that much of Max Weber's work has been misunderstood, and that many of his most striking and sophisticated theories have been overlooked. Frank Samuel Herbert Kendon (1893–1959) was a Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge, a scholar of ancient and medieval Christianity and a published poet and novelist. He was commissioned to translate the Psalms for the New English Bible, a project that was first discussed by Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press in the 1930s and that began in earnest after World War II. Ill health prevented Kendon from finishing his translation and eventually a new translator was found to begin the task afresh so as to ensure uniformity of style. The committee overseeing the project felt that the translations Kendon has completed were so distinctive that they deserved to be issued as a literary work in their own right and Cambridge University Press published this volume as a memorial to him in 1963 in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. The book is now reissued to make Kendon's work available to a new generation of readers.

Clément Huart (1854–1926) graduated in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Modern Greek and served as a French diplomat in Istanbul (or, as he called it, Constantinople) for twenty years before becoming Professor of Persian at the Ecole des Langues Orientales in Paris. He edited and translated many oriental texts and published widely on Middle-Eastern cultures. This 1897 publication describes a visit to Konya, where Huart hoped to find out more about the capital of the Seljuk Empire than was recorded in Byzantine or Persian sources. Travelling on horseback from Istanbul, Huart noted his impressions of archaeological sites and historic buildings, and recorded details of many inscriptions from the Seljuk period on mosques, mausoleums, caravanserais and fortresses. He also met the whirling dervishes. His fascinating account of his experiences is interwoven with references to medieval battles and Islamic legends, together with advice for future travellers to this rapidly modernising region.

John Buridan was a fourteenth-century philosopher who enjoyed an enormous reputation for about two hundred years, was then totally neglected, and is now being 'rediscovered' through his relevance to contemporary work in philosophical logic.
