This book focuses on a seldom discussed topic despite its immeasurable impact on the health of the citizens and public health in Hong Kong—the development of outpatient medical services and their contributions. In the early 20th century, Chinese elite organized and operated a number of Chinese Public Dispensaries in Hong Kong and Kowloon, initially to reduce the prevalence of “dump bodies” on the streets during epidemics of smallpox or plague, and to determine the cause of death of these bodies. Later other services including domiciliary deliveries by trained midwives were added. The government founded similar clinics in the New Territories. After WWII, the government took over all the Chinese Public Dispensaries and operated them as general outpatient clinics. Over the years, more general clinics and special clinics were developed. Individual masterpieces by cabinetmakers in France, England and Germany further exemplify the wide-reaching effect of an ‘exotic’ stylistic vocabulary and the development of an eighteenth-century fashion in the decorative arts.

Drawing on extensive historical studies of the lives and works of distinctive yet understudied sinologists in the Czech Republic, Mongolia, Poland, and Russia, this volume takes readers on a journey of exploration and rediscovery of post-communist sinology—an important topic that we know surprisingly little about. After the end of the Cold War, the China Studies research agenda in these four countries has evolved divergently without any apparent shared orientation, despite the previously shared socialist and Communist legacies. Contributors draw on case studies to illustrate how sinologists in these countries actively use diverse approaches to map China’s modern evolution and deconstruct stereotypical notions of China’s rise in the twenty-first century. These hallmark studies also reveal sinologists’ deep engagement with the Chinese humanities. My Master of Laws Dissertation is about International Arbitration with focus on discussing the Autonomy of Arbitration by: (1) comparing Arbitration with Litigation and Mediation and discussing the involvement of the Court in these dispute resolution mechanisms; and (2) comparing the Arbitration Regimes of two Common Law Jurisdictions, namely, United Kingdom and Hong Kong, so as to have a glimpse of the future trend of the development of Arbitration.

This volume is a special issue which is devoted to selected papers from the 10th Taiwan-Philippines Symposium on Analysis (10th TPSOA) held on 31/March–3/April 2014 at the Garden Villa Hotel, Kaohsiung city, Taiwan and organized mainly by National University of Kaohsiung. The article on page 311 has listed the bilateral participants of Taiwan and the Philippines for the 10 symposiums.
