Germany's Gathering Crisis: The 2005 Federal Election and the Grand Coalition

This book analyzes German politics and economy. It analyzes the gathering crisis during the Red-Green government, the governments efforts to impose a reform agenda, the impact of the 2005 federal elections, and provides an evaluation of the success of the Grand Coalition in meeting these challenges in the run-up to the 2009 elections.

ALISTER MISKIMMON is Senior Lecturer in European Politics and International Relations and Co-Director of the Centre for European Politics at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. He writes on German and European Union security policy. Alister is author of Germany and the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.

WILLIAM E. PATERSON is Director of the Institute for German Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK, and Chairman of the German-British Forum. A founding editor of German Politics he has published widely in the fields of German and European politics. His most recent major publication is Governance in Contemporary Germany which he co-edited with Simon Green.

JAMES SLOAM is Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK, where he is co-director of the Centre for European Politics. He has published widely in the areas of German politics, political parties and youth participation in democracy.
