This third edition of a classic text is updated to reflect changes in the field over the past 40 years. Evert (botany and plant pathology, emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison) provides a foundation on the meristems, cells, and tissues of the plant body, and notes some of the advances being made in the understanding of their function and development through molecular research. This edition offers greater emphasis on structure-function relationships. As in previous editions, angiosperms are emphasized, but some features of the vegetative parts of gymnosperms and seedless vascular plants are also considered. The text is designed primarily for advanced students in various branches of plant science, for plant researchers (from molecular to whole plant), and for teachers of plant anatomy. An effort has been made to appeal to the less-advanced student as well by presenting numerous b&w illustrations and images, and definitions of terms and concepts as the appear in the text.
