The Ashgate Research Companion to Queer Theory

This reader contains 29 papers that provide an overview of current concerns within queer theory, a field of critical theory that has emerged out of gay and lesbian studies and feminist studies. The essays address the four key concerns of queer theoretical work--identity, discourse, normativity, and relationality--while also engaging with intersecting theoretical discourses such as feminist theory, gay and lesbian studies, postcolonial theory, psychoanalysis, disability studies, Marxism, poststructuralism, critical race studies, and posthumanism. Examples of specific topics include heterosexuality after queer theory, female-to-male masculinity and the trans culture of boyhood, taxonomies of identity in AIDS discourse, queerness in the sociology of sport, queer theory and archaeology, queer analysis of personal life in the early 21st century, and desire between women in Frankenstein.
