Adorno and Heidegger ─ Philosophical Questions

Beginning in the 1930s, one of the leading lights of the Frankfurt school, Theodor Adorno, launched what would become a sustained philosophical attack on the thought of Martin Heidegger, although Heidegger for his part, appeared to deem Adorno's attacks as unworthy of response. Heidegger's dismissal notwithstanding, MacDonald (philosophy, U. de Montreal and McGill U., Canada) and Ziarek (comparative literature, U. of Buffalo, US) believe there is much to be gained from a dialogue between Heideggerian and post-Heideggerian philosophy and the critique of Adorno and his followers. They present 10 papers that begin such a dialogue, touching upon such issues as ethics and authenticity, transcendental realism and post-metaphysical thinking, poietic epistemology and differing approaches to Edmund Husserl, the relation between human beings and things in Adorno and Heidegger, modernity and the struggle of the self against itself, and the problem of remembrance.
