Critical Issues in Early Literacy: Research and Pedagogy

This volume adds in important ways to understanding the power and complexity of the forces in the lives of children that impact their literacy learning. The critical issues presented emerge from interpretivist research and thinking practices that are constructivist in nature. Yetta Goodman is Regents Professor Emerita at the University of Arizona, College of Education, Department of Language, Reading and Culture. Her research focus includes miscue analysis, retrospective miscue analysis, and early literacy development.?She travels extensively to consult and present about whole language curriculum, literacy learning and teaching, kid watching, and the reading process.?

Prisca Martens is an associate professor in the Department of Elementary Education at Towson University where she teaches courses on reading, assessment, and children’s literature. Her research interests include early literacy, miscue analysis, and retrospective miscue analysis.
