Edited by Fritts (director, library services, Benedictine U.), this volume covers common academic library management issues and offers suggestions on how to best handle or avoid them. There is variance in the style of the authors--some offering concise lists with bulleted points, and others dense text, with plenty of footnotes. But they usually present examples of typical errors in areas such as project management, staffing, program planning and evaluation, or the failure to reach out and learn about users before implementing changes in services. Other chapters focus on more general subjects such as communication, leadership, or campus politics. Most of the contributors hold management positions in academic libraries, but the volume is also rounded out by a piece from a vice president for academic affairs.
