Gravyland: Writing Beyond the Curriculum in the City of Brotherley Love

Parks (writing and rhetoric, Syracuse U.) reports from his classroom and others on the state of composition/rhetoric, particularly the degree to which the field was able to retain the commitment to working-class and working-poor students from diverse and international backgrounds, who filled the basic writing classrooms of the 1960s and 1970s, through the conservative onslaught of the following decades. His topics include breaking bounds and reaffirming connections, the hybrid nature of partnerships between universities and public schools, oppositional strategies and collective politics, the role of community publishing in English studies, New City Community Press, and the aftermath of survival.
