Aztalan, located on the Crawfish River 50 miles west of Milwaukee, is an archaeological site that was discovered in 1836 and believed to be a Mississippian civilization flourishing from 1050 to 1250 AD. The authors describe excavations, artifacts, and research done on the site, the culture, people, life, and customs of the site, its Mississippian origins, and the current Aztalan State Park. Diagrams and b&w photos are interspersed. Birmingham is the former Wisconsin State Archaeologist at the Wisconsin Historical Society, and Goldstein is professor of anthropology at Michigan State U. 作者簡介
Robert Birmingham served for many years as Wisconsin State Archaeologist. He is president of the Wisconsin Archaeological Survey and the Friends of Aztalan State Park and a board member of the Wisconsin Archaeological Society. Lynne Goldstein is professor and chairperson at the Department of Anthropology, Michigan State University. She has conducted field research at and around Aztalan for over twenty-eight years.
