This historical novel is based on the true story of a Viking ship excavated from a hill in Norway in 1904. Archeologists were surprised to find the elaborate burial ship contained the bones of a woman. Historians in 1904 had assumed women were not important Viking leaders and weren't allowed on ships. Who was she? The novel alternates chapters between the archeologists unearthing the ship in 1904 and the Viking queen who sailed it a thousand years earlier.
作者簡介
William L. Sullivan is the author of three novels and dozen nonfiction books. He completed his B.A. degree in English at Cornell University under Alison Lurie, studied linguistics at Germany's Heidelberg University, and earned an M.A. in German at the University of Oregon. He reads in a dozen languages, including Danish, Norwegian, and Old Norse. He undertook seven voyages to Scandinavia while researching Nordic sagas for The Ship in the Hill. Sullivan is known in the American West as the author who backpacked more than a thousand miles across Oregon's wilderness in 1985. His jounral of that adventure, Listening for Coyote, has been chosen one of Oregon's 100 Books. Since then he has written three novels, two books on Oregon history, and a series of 100 Hikes books for Oregon.
