Robert J. Coplan, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is co-editor of the academic volume The Development of Shyness and Social Withdrawal (Rubin & Coplan, 2010) and author of the forthcoming book What Teachers Need to Know about Shy Children at School. He is editor of the academic journal Social Development and was an invited co-editor of a recent special issue of Infant and Child Development (2009) on shyness and language. His research is on children’s social and emotional development and peer relationships.
