商品簡介
Fourteen scholarly papers from the last 30 years examine the causes, course, and consequences of the British Civil War (1642-48). Readings include Conrad Russell on Charles I, Sir William Brereton on the War and religion, and Christopher Hill on whether the British Civil War was really a bourgeois revolution. The period covered by the anthology extends until 1649, and a forthcoming volume is expected to address 1649-1660 (the interregnum). Each of the three major sections (causes, course, consequences) features substantial introductions that contextualize the papers and discuss recent trends and issues in historical research. Contributor notes are not provided but Gaunt is a Reader in History at Chester College of Higher Education and author of The British Civil Wars 1637-1651 (1997). Annotation c.
