Welling (1655-1727) was not an academic, but his tome of forbidden knowledge made a big splash when it appeared in 1719, and has influenced Goethe and the literature of the Rosicrusians, Masons, Hermetic movements across Europe including the Golden Dawn, and probably groups that have yet to discover themselves and their ancient history. For all that, it has not been translated from German into English during these nearly three centuries. McVeigh (German, Smith College) has done so now, but warns that knowing the language is no guarantee of understanding the text. 作者簡介
Georg von Welling was born in Schwaben, Bavaria, in 1655. He worked as the director of the BadenDurlacher Office of Building and Mines until 1723 and died in 1725 in Frankfurt. Von Welling was primarily known for his book Opus MagoCabbalisticum et Theosophicum, which influenced numerous subsequent authors and informed much of the tradition of Western Ritual Magick. Joseph McVeigh is a professor of German Studies at Smith College with the interest and skills necessary to translate such an arcane occult classic.
Lon Milo DuQuette has been involved with occult studies since the late 60s, and has become an acknowledged and widely recognized authority within the world of modern occultism. His previous publications include Magick of Thelema, The Tarot of Ceremonial Magick, Angels, Demons & Gods of the New Millennium, and the humorous, biographical My Life with the Spirits.
